Keeping It Real!

The Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission(RCDC) in partnership with the Arkansas State Department of Education will be presenting its’ 4th annual “Keepin’ It Real,” conference that will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, from 9:00 A.M. – 1:30 P.M., in Governor's Hall 4 at the Statehouse Convention Center, #1 Statehouse Plaza, Little Rock, AR 72201.

Our effort is to encourage central Arkansas educators and students to play a leadership role in addressing the issues of diversity and education. Moreover, we believe that enhancing the racial/cultural environment at our schools will have a direct impact on the learning environment and student performance.

The Racial & Cultural Diversity Commission’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) organizes and facilitates this conference. The YAC would like to invite you and the members of your Youth Diversity Council (YDC) to participate in this annual interactive and student driven event. If you do not have an established YDC, please attend and select a diverse group of students who may be interested in creating an YDC at your school.

The YAC is made up of students from Central Arkansas high schools, both public and private. Last year’s event was a gathering of over 200 high school students, school sponsors and administrators. At “Keepin It Real” a series of workshops and panel discussions will be held throughout the day where students, school sponsors, and administrators will explore ways to embrace and celebrate our differences with an emphasis on tolerance, unity, and diversity education.

We are requesting your support in sending a delegation from your school and interested faculty and administrators to this educational event. Registration is $10.00 per person, which will include lunch and a T-shirt for the first 250 people. Additionally, we will have a workshop just for the adults.
