Manual for Developing
Youth Diversity
Councils
Videos Videos Videos
A Youth Diversity Council is a group of students in a high school who come together to learn about and address issues of diversity and race relations in their schools and community. It is established under the allspices of the Little Rock Racial and Cultural Diversity under the supervision of the school’s administration. There are currently 8 Youth Diversity Councils in Pulaski County. The chartered schools are Hall High School, Little Rock Central High School, Mills High School, Mount Saint Mary, Pulaski Academy, and Robinson High School.

The City of Little Rock's Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission recognizes that Central Arkansas is becoming an increasingly culturally diverse community, and that its schools reflect this growing trend. We feel that if we expect students to live and work in an increasingly diverse society, then we have a responsibility to address diversity and give students the skills for understanding, managing, and appreciating that diversity.

We believe that an increased understanding of other races, cultures, and ethnicities will help every classroom teacher facilitate an improved learning environment. Hopefully, improved race relations and intercultural understanding will help our schools achieve the goals of “No Child Left Behind,” which entails improving the academic performance of all students.
